Chocolate

While chocolate is regularly eaten for pleasure, there are potential beneficial health effects of eating chocolate. Cocoa or dark chocolate benefits the circulatory system.
A study reported by the BBC indicated that melting chocolate in one's mouth produced an increase in brain activity and heart rate that was more intense than that associated with passionate kissing, and also lasted four times as long after the activity had ended.
So go on and eat chocolate!

I miss NYC...

...there are no words to describe how I feel about New York. It´s without any dobuts the greatest city in the world!

Ljubljana

Just a couple of days left and then I´ll be back in Slovenia. I have pretty much to do at the univeristy in Ljubljana so I'll be seeing my beloved Portoroz in June... But no worries, Ljubljana is great...shopping, coffeshops, parks...I think I´ll survive!

Ljubljana, where I study and where I was born (moved to Sweden, to the town my father grew up in when I was two months old)

Homemade Facial Masks

Banana, Honey and Yogurt Facial Mask.
This facial mask tastes as good as it works.

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Mash the banana with a fork then mix in honey and yogurt. Apply to your face evenly. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft wash cloth

  • Avocado Facial Mask
This is one of those masks that leave your skin very soft to touch.
    * 1/2 Avocado

Mash avocado and apply evenly to your face. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft wash cloth.

    Lemon Tomato Mask
Use this on oily skin. The acid in the tomato and lemon work on acne and blackheads.

  • 1 over-ripe tomato; inside scooped and mashed
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp instant oatmeal
Puree all ingredients in a blender. Apply to freshly cleaned face and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

  • Soothing Strawberry Scrub

Use this on normal or combination skin. The strawberry seeds exfloiate old skin while the yogurt sooths.

  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt; chilled
  • 3-4 strawberries; mashed

Stir ingredients together. Apply to freshly cleaned face and gently massage strawberry misxture to exfloiate. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

  •
    Peachy Facial Mask
Perfect for a summertime refreshing skin care day.

  • 1 soft medium peach; fork mashed
  • 1 tablespoons honey
  • oatmeal

Mix ingredients together. Apply to freshly cleaned face and leave on for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

  • Try also facial masks from Nivea.
Or Neanae Red Ginseng Yellow Earth Facial Mask. A perfect gift set!

Refreshing walk with a dear friend!

One of my friends, Sara and I took a bracing walk in our hometown in Sweden. As you can see it was sunny and warm...the summer is just around the corner even for Sweden.

    Split ends...we do hate them!

"Summer calling" and "Beautiful Things" by Andain rule in my Ipod right now. These songs are really hypnotic!
But now to something more important. Split ends!!!

Make your own hair mask: egg yolk, olive oil, (natural yoghurt), (honey). Mix and apply!

    * Get your hair trimmed regularly, meaning every six to eight weeks. All hair gets damaged after a while. It will remove split ends and keep your hair healthy and growing strong.

    * Avoid products that claim to "heal" split ends. They will only temporarily glue split ends together. They may help prevent messy hair, but they will cause more damage farther down the road.
    * Protect your hair before swimming. Be sure to rinse and shampoo your hair as soon as possible after swimming.

    * Many people don't realize just how fragile the ends of hair are. Being too rough with a brush or comb, or brushing or combing too often can damage your hair. If you have thicker hair you may need to use a pick or wide-toothed comb. Combs in general are more gentle and don´t forget: never over brush!!! Comb the hair gently. Start at the bottom and work your way up.

    * Protect your hair from the Sun. Ultraviolet rays can be as damaging to your hair as your skin. Look for conditioners that contain sunscreen or mix sunscreen and conditioner together and leave that in your hair.
    * Wash your hair properly. It is best to only wash the scalp hair and leave the length to hang down your back...the length should not be piled on top of your head. When you rinse the shampoo out of your hair, the shampoo will run down the length anyway, that is as much washing as the ends of your hair need!
    * Conditioner should then be applied to the length to soak for a while before rinsing out. Hot water strips away moisture so rinse your hair with the coolest water you can stand.
    * It´s best to let your hair air dry naturally.
This is want you´ll be needing:

  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Leave in conditioner or hair detangler
  • Regular hair trims
  • Conditioner
  • Weekly hair mask

  • Thank you Studio Laura in Ljubljana for these tips.
I and my hair will see you again next week :)

To beautiful to even look at...

Many of you wanted me to post a photo of Robert Pattinson . Well, here you go!
    Hope I´ve made your day!

I totally agree, you can´t stop looking at him!

    Mountain climbing

I came across these "ancient" photos from when my family and I were in the mountains in Slovenia (the Alps) a couple of years ago. I´m the type of girl who loves mountain climbing (my family and I go a few times every summer) not because of the walking itself but due to the view! But then again who doesn´t go mountain climbing/walking because of the view?

Saying these views are spectacular and astonishing would be an immense understatment!

    Venice, september 08

So, my two friends and I took a trip to Venice for my birthday last year. We had a great time, strolled around Venice, ate real Italian pizza, bought Venetian ceramic-masks, took a  classical Venetian gondola-ride, explored all the main attractions, I even bought a Gucci-bag...well, it was my birthday!
Even though this was not my first trip to this amazing town there´s always a special feeling when you come back to Venice...you forget how breathtaking and crowded it really is!

This guy was like showing me how to drive that thing in case he would drown or something...well not really!
    Love his outfit, btw!

Piran, the medieval town in Slovenia

Piran (Italian: Pirano) is a town and municipality in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic coast on the Gulf of Piran.
The Piran peninsula was incorporated into the Roman Empire in 178 and 177 B.C.
It is full of Italian charm. Venice is only 1.5hrs away, and the lights from Venice can be seen on a clear night. The whole town is one big attraction as this lazy fishing village has not changed much in 400 years. The cobble stone streets are so narrow that two people must walk single file.
Here`s where my grandmother and my mother were born and raised. They moved to Portoroz (the neighboor town) when my mother was ten years old.

    It´s summer...

...I can feel it in the air...only a few weeks left... :) Meanwhile I´ll look at my photos from my "vacation" in (my hometown) Portoroz and Venice, Italy with two friends of mine from Sweden who visited me in september. I´ll upload photos from Venice as soon as possible :)

    Cucumber

Though cucumbers are usually associated with hot weather, they were forced to grow out of season for the Roman emperor Tiberius, who reigned from 14-37 A.D. The Romans enjoyed cucumbers so much that he demanded they be available every day of the year. He ate 10 a day himself!
    * Add slices of cucumber and lemon to pitchers of water for a refreshing spa treat at home.
    * Lightly sauté sliced cucumbers in butter or oil and sprinkle with fresh dill or mint.

    Photo: Big Oven
    Cucumber as a facial mask:
Cucumber can reduce puffiness under the eyes, as well as help diminish dark circles. All over the face, cucumber has a naturally astringent affect, which reduces oiliness, tightens pores and makes foundation glide on. It's also great for summer, when going make-up free means skin needs to be at its best.

Shrimp Cocktail with Tropical Chipotle-Avocado Salsa

This is one of my favourite recipes. It´s easy to make and delicious. Makes an impressive first course for a dinner party. Shrimp picks up flavor quickly and doesn't need to marinate for more than half an hour. Enjoy :)

    • 1 1/2  cups  finely chopped fresh pineapple
    • 9  tablespoons  chopped peeled ripe avocado
    • 1/2  cup  finely chopped tomato
    • 1/3  cup  chopped green onions
    • 2  tablespoons  chopped fresh basil
    • 2  teaspoons  fresh lemon juice
    • 1  teaspoon  minced chipotle chile, canned in adobo sauce
    • 1/2  teaspoon  sugar
    • 1/2  teaspoon  salt, divided
    • 30  large unpeeled shrimp (about 1 1/2 pounds)
    • 1  tablespoon  dry sherry
    • 1  tablespoon  low-sodium soy sauce
    • 1/2  teaspoon  ground cumin
    • 3  garlic cloves, minced
    • 2  teaspoons  olive oil
    • 6  lime wedges (optional)

Combine first 8 ingredients (through sugar) in a medium bowl; stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cover and chill.

Peel and devein shrimp, leaving tails intact. Combine shrimp, sherry, and next 3 ingredients (through garlic) in a large zip-top plastic bag; seal and shake to coat shrimp. Marinate in refrigerator 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Remove shrimp from bag; discard marinade. Add shrimp to pan; sprinkle with remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook 2 minutes on each side or until shrimp are done. Spoon 1/3 cup salsa into each of 6 martini glasses; place 5 shrimp on rim of each glass. Garnish each glass with a lime wedge, if desired.

    My favourite spot in Slovenia

Here´s where you find me every summer (since I was born)...somwhere on the beach...just chilling!

Between Piran and Strunjan, surrounded by undulating hills, there is a cosy small bay called Fiesa. The beach and view are just amazing!

I really recommend you bring along these products on your next trip.
You find detox-kits in any make-up & perfume boutique.

    The cashewnut

The cashew nut is a popular snack and its rich flavor means that it is often eaten on its own, lightly salted or sugared.
A popular alternative (at least in my family) is to add them to salads with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, corn and some kind of cheese. Try also fried rice with cod- or chicken fillet and vegetables or/and roasted cashewnuts in maple syrup.
In Brazil, the cashew fruit juice is very popular and can be found all across the country!
Cashew nuts are also a less frequent allergen than other nuts or peanuts but are not common in candy due to higher price compared to peanuts and almonds, except from higher quality manufacturers.

    What´s hot right now?

    Victoria´s secret

    Green tea

Is any other food or drink reported to have as many health benefits as green tea? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression.
Green tea originates from China  and has become associated with many cultures in Asia from Japan to the Middle East.
Regular green tea drinkers may have lower chances of heart desease and developing certain types of cancer.
It has also been claimed useful for weight loss.
The only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee.

A cup of green tea a day keeps the doctor away.
Also try deep-brewed tea with clinking ice cubes, so called iced-tea.

    The Skaw/Skagen (Denmark)

Isn´t it just beautiful? Do you spot a little bit of the ocean? There´s supposed to be a special light here...but I didn´t notice anything different. Could it have been my sunglasses?
Skagen is considered the boundary between the Skagerrak (named after Skagen) and the Kattegat. At its very tip there is a sandy, shifting headland known as Grenen. Right here you can experience the sight of waves clashing together from each side of the tip.

    Yoghurt

    Photo: google

Try yoghurt ice-cream with soy yoghurt which is a very good non-dairy yoghurt alternative. Yoghurt is believed to promote good gum health, possibly because of the probiotic effect of lactic acids present in yoghurt. Think about that next time you buy ice-cream or a smoothie.

Soon I´ll be "trading" this view....

    Sweden

    ....for this one.

    Slovenia

I don´t really know how I feel about this...it´s summer in Slovenia whereas in Sweden it´s...well let´s just say it´s not summer.
    Enough said.
And btw. I appreciate other seasons as much as I  appreciate a long hot summer. In fact my favourite time of the year is actually autumn (fall for all US-people). I know, weird right?

    Someday...

    Trip-list

I travel pretty much all the time. Since I study in Slovenia but still have my parents in Sweden and since I travelled a lot with my parents and siblings when we were younger I´m not a stranger to airplanes, boats and other means of  transport. And "traveldays" are just like other ordinary days for me. I really don´t understand people who don´t like to travel or think it´s just so complicated...all you need is the right things to bring along and you´ll not even notice you´ve been away from home...obviously I count on you´ll bring your passport, money, tickets and stuff like that so I don´t have to put it on this list ;)
    1) Make sure your MP3/4-player is fully charged and filled with your favourite kind of music (in my right now: Robert Pattinson and Blue Fondation), photos from home with family and friends and a couple of good movies. Sure the screen is small but who cares, right?
    2) A really good
moisturizing creme ( I bought one in Victoria´s secret  and it´s now my favourite: strawberries and champagne by Victoria´s secret)
    .
    3) A decent camera with a built-in camcorder. I bring my camera wherever I go...the most beautiful photos are made when you least expect it. I´m not really fond of mobilephone-cameras though but it´s better than nothing.
    Have a nice trip!

    Coconut water

    Photo: Tropical Traditions

If you don´t  really like ordinary water, try coconut water. It has a refreshing and delicious taste.
Coconut water is the clear liquid inside young coconuts. It is naturally fat-free and low in food energy. It is also marketed as a sports drink because of its high potassium and mineral content.

I personally adore coconuts...honestly I could eat them all day long. I love cocnut-milk in sauces, pieces of fruits of the coconut palm and meat in yoghurt, coconut-ice cream...I even buy sun lotion with coconuts
    .
Coconuts are also members of "the-beauty-food-family" together with some other fruits and veggies.

    Portoroz

I´m all about summer and everything that comes with it. Like warm, long days on a beach or just strolling around in a luxurious city with an ice-cream. And lucky as I am my mother is from Portoroz, Slovenia. Even though I grew up in Sweden I´ve spent almost every summer in Portoroz since I can remember. Portoroz is the perfect city!
It has everthing to keep me satisfied: tenniscourts, swimming-pools, minigolf, sailing- and yatch-clubs, beaches, boutiques, ice-cream bars, fancy resaturants with my favourite dishes (seafood)...eh, do I really need to continue?
    See for yourself.

    Remembering...

...Barcelona when I visited this beautiful city a couple of years ago.
Wonderful architecture, magnificent views, glorious weather, friendly people and wonderful seashores and the food was just scrumptious.

    Don´t forget to visit...

My top 5. places you have to visit when you´re in New York:
    1. PAX (delicious food, also a whole lot of veggie-meals and unbelievable smoothies!)
    2. Victoria´s secret (be prepared to spend a lot of money and time in these stores!)
    3. Starbucks (try the strawberry frappuccino with just a hint of caramel...it will make your day!)
    4. Forever 21 (great range of clothes you´ll just fall in love with)
    5. Coldstone (make your own icecream-cup with your favourite flavours, pour chocolate, custard or fruit-sauce over your icecream and top it with different fruits or chips of dark and white chocolate).
